Be safe with Electroplay.

Violet Wand safety begins with you and your wand.

Violet Wands are the safest electrical ‘toy’ in existence because of the form of their output current.  A Violet Wand uses an extremely low amperage, but high voltage/high frequency current to produce sparks.  In comparison, household electrical current is dangerous and can be deadly.  A Violet Wand transforms household current into a current safe to use for our purposes.  Violet Wand current travels near the skin surface where you feel it, and does not penetrate any measurable depth into the body.  It behaves like, and feels like, a static shock from a doorknob.  But you get a continuous stream of the sparks rather than just a single one.

General Guidelines:

These are general guidelines for Violet Wand safety.  Seek your own comfort level and that of your partner.

A Violet Wand is safe to use above the chest.

A Violet Wand is fine to use on the head and face (just not near eyes.)

No-No’s:

Don’t ever use a Violet Wand on someone with a pacemaker or known heart problems. Never use a Violet Wand on anyone with an insulin pump or other electrically operated medical implant.

Never use a Violet Wand on someone who is pregnant or suspects they might be pregnant.

Violet Wands should not be used near other electronic devices. The high voltage can damage electronic components.

Avoid:

For metal hip/knee replacements etc that are not electronic, just stay 12″ away from those areas.  For example, if a knee replacement, then the groin is ok.

Green Light:

If you have a true Violet Wand, and if you have a true Violet Wand internal electrode,* a Violet Wand is safe to use in internal orifices. Violet Wand internal electrodes are made of a special type of glass for safe use for insertion.

The sparks from a Violet Wand can ignite flammable liquids and gases, including those from some fragrance burners, hand cleaners, alcohol, etc.  This is why Violet Wands are so often used in fireplay, to ignite the fuel, in a very spectacular and visual fashion.

Please use caution.

Violet Wand Safety Factors:

A Violet Wand does not produce UV light though they produce a very small, almost unable to be measured, amount of UV as part of a full-spectrum light at the point of spark.  But it is so little, that it can not be measured except with highly sensitive scientific equipment and is of no concern.

A Violet Wand produces some ozone which breaks down rapidly, and the amount produced is under OSHA safety guidelines.  You should not however, run a Violet Wand for hours at a time in a small (less than 10×10) space without ventilation.

How to Avoid the Possibility of a Ground Fault:

The only real danger of Violet Wands, would be something that causes household current to come through the Violet Wand. This is possible but not likely, and really could only happen if you get your Violet Wand wet causing a short in the wand that would allow household current through.  It can also happen if a household electrical line  is not wired properly.  If either of these occur and a ‘ground fault’ does take place, a glass electrode would stop the current before it reached you.  So will ‘safety-gapped’ metal electrodes also stop household current.   Don’t let your Violet Wand get wet even with those protections!

Keep your Violet Wand away from all conductive fluids, (e.g., water or drinks, …), just like all electrical devices. Therefore, do not use Violet Wands in connection with watersports.

If you want to play the safest, then get a portable GFCI to use with your wand at all times.  If there are ever any circumstances that would short your wand or cause a dangerous ground fault, then a GFCI will instantly trigger, shutting off your power at the wall outlet before it ever reaches the wand.  Instant safety net, and they are very inexpensive.

Questions About Internal Violet Wand Electrodes

Please Note:

*We do not carry internal electrodes. Internal electrodes are available only from one US manufacturer. They require a special grade and type of glass to be safe.
